Dear Gen Xer,
Last Monday I asked you to choose which band was overrated:
a) U2
b) Radiohead
c) Depeche Mode
d) Nirvana
This was not close, people.
A whopping 40% of you said:
Walk away, walk away
Walk away, walk away
You will not follow, U2!
Kiss our collective shillelagh, boys: you are glorified turds.
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…
The Gen X Jukebox Question of the Week!
New York City. 1979.
You feel like catching a show tonight. You check the local paper and find that tons of bands are playing.
Who do you see?
Please consider liking this post if you decide to vote. I’ll be your best friend.
Regarding U2: I didn't get a chance to comment this last week when I voted for them, but in 2013, I made a New Year's Resolution to try to go the whole year without hearing a U2 song. I was a carless city girl at the time and went out prepared with headphones etc., knowing they're oft forced upon us via convenience store music.
I lasted THREE DAYS before they came on at Dunkin Donuts when my hands were too full to get my iPod on in time. And I still feel violated from the morning I woke up 2 years later to find their new album had been forcibly installed on my iPhone without my consent.
they are a pox upon humanity
OK, I did my research on this one Sonny. Blondie was up-and-coming, Talking Heads had only one or two songs that I’ve heard of (and I’m not a fan of “I Zimbra”), Lou Reed is a pass, but the Ramones were right in their sweet spot, and I will never say no to “Sheena is a Punk Rocker” (of course I sing it as “Sheila is… a punk rocker”).
Ramones!! All the way! With Blondie in a double bill at CBGB’s!!🤘
